I have taught students for more than 12 years, and I have seen the same problem again and again. Learners memorise a word list but forget it in a week, because they never see the word inside a sentence. So I have grouped these 100 words by topic and added an example to every single one. Read a group, say the sentences aloud, and you will remember them much longer.

100 Word Meaning English to Hindi – How to Use This List
Every table below has five columns: the word number, the English word with its part of speech (n = noun, v = verb, adj = adjective), the Hindi meaning in Devanagari, the pronunciation in Roman letters, and an example sentence in English and Hindi. Where a word has more than one Hindi meaning, I have listed the two most common ones so that you can choose the one that fits your sentence.
Do not try to finish all 100 words in one sitting. Take one group of 10 words a day and you will complete the whole 100 word meaning English to Hindi list in just 10 days. If you are new to reading Hindi, first revise the Hindi Varnamala so that the Devanagari letters feel familiar. Hindi is written in the Devanagari script, and it takes only a few days of practice to read it comfortably.

How to Remember All 100 Words Easily
Knowing the meaning is only half the job. Here is the method I suggest to my own students, and it works for adults too.
- Learn 10 words a day. One topic group per day is enough. You will finish all 100 words in 10 days, then spend the next days on revision.
- Use spaced repetition. Revise the words after 1 day, 3 days and 7 days. This method, called spaced repetition, fights forgetting much better than one long study session.
- Speak the sentence, not just the word. Say the English sentence and then the Hindi one aloud. Your ear remembers what your eye skips.
- Make your own sentence. After each group, write one new sentence per word about your own life. A personal sentence is the strongest memory hook.
- Label your home. Stick small notes on the window, mirror, umbrella and ladder with the Hindi word. You will see them all day.
- Test yourself. Cover the Hindi column and try to say the meaning. Then cover the English column and try the reverse.
Common Mistakes When Learning English Words in Hindi
Even good students make these mistakes, so read them carefully.
1. Picking the wrong meaning. Many English words have more than one Hindi meaning. For example, support can be सहारा (something you lean on) or समर्थन (agreement and backing). Always check the sentence before you choose. That is why every word in this list has an example.
2. Translating word by word. English and Hindi place the verb in different positions. In English we say “I am hungry”, but in Hindi it is “मुझे भूख लगी है”, which means “hunger has been felt to me”. A direct translation such as “मैं भूखा हूँ” is also understood, but the first form sounds more natural in daily speech.
3. Ignoring gender and number. Hindi verbs and many adjectives change for male and female speakers. You can see the rule in our posts on Vachan and Upsarg.
4. Mixing up similar words. Grateful and thankful are close in meaning but not the same in feel. Compare them in our guides on grateful and thankful.
Practice Quiz: Test Yourself

If you got 8 or more right, you are doing very well. If you scored less, do not worry. Go back to the groups where you missed words and read their sentences again.
